In sixth grade Social Studies, we will be learning about United States geography and early United States history. I'm so excited to be teaching this class as we will cover many of the events that made the United States the nation it is today! After examining maps and exploring the different geographic regions of the country, we will then discover the beginnings of our country, starting with people such as Samuel de Champlain and John Cabot. Next, we will look at the British colonization of North America and the colonists' fight to break free from the mother country. As the young nation expanded across the continent, it overcame several obstacles. As we examine each step in building our nation, we will look at how those actions led to more events. Lastly, we will end our study of early U.S. history with the American Civil War.
